I’m a designer and artist working across graphic design, installation, sound and text.
For over twenty years I've designed for retail, music and cultural clients: across identity, print, signage and exhibition graphics to web design. I also make electronic music and sound art, alongside ongoing research in philosophy and critical theory. These now feel less like separate activities than parts of one practice.
Design and art both work on emotion. Design arranges imagery and text through hierarchy, framing and rhythm, directing how something is seen. My art practice asks what happens when that direction loosens into ambiguity making the relation more unpredictable: how sound, objects and text can change how a space is felt, whether or not they were made specifically for the site.
Recently I’ve been developing installation work for spaces outside of the conventional gallery system, combining humble objects and simple materials with sound, alongside writing that moves between experimental fiction and theory.
I start intuitively and pragmatically, looking for where the energy of a project lies and what its constraints are, then test, edit and reduce until the work reaches its clearest form. That approach applies as much to a shop window as to a sound installation.
I’m available for commissions in retail, music, cultural and exhibition work, and I'm especially interested in collaborations that cut across disciplines.
